2025 Low Income Subsidy (LIS) (EXTRA HELP)

It does not matter if you live in Pasco County, Pinellas County, Hillsbrogh County, Citrus County or Hernando County, we all need help once in a while. Prescription drugs and Medicare premiums can drain our resources if not enough resources are available. This article, “2025 Low-Income Subsidy” can help some people to save some money.

I intend to answer most of your questions in this article, but if I miss something please email me at daniel@pascohernandoseniorservices.org and I will answer your question.

What is the Low-Income Subsidy

Low-Income Subsidy, which may also be referred to as LIS or “Extra Help is a federal subsidy program that helps low-income Medicare-eligible consumers save money on their prescription costs and other Part D-related costs like premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.

The program is administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA), which determines if someone is eligible (based on income and resource thresholds, which change annually), determines their qualifications and eligibility levels, and processes the application.

Some people qualify automatically for Extra Help but others must apply through the Social Security office. If someone isn’t automatically qualified and notified by SSA, they may enroll online or with the assistance of a licensed insurance agent.

Key Benefits of the Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) in 2025

  • Lower or No Monthly Premiums: Helps cover the cost of Medicare Part D prescription drug plan premiums.
  • Reduced Deductibles: Most beneficiaries pay little or no deductible.
  • Lower Copayments for Medications: Significantly reduces the cost of prescription drugs.
  • No Late Enrollment Penalty: If eligible, you won’t be penalized for late enrollment in a Part D plan.
